Dallahan (Direct from Scotland)

Since they started in late 2013, Dallahan have exploded onto the traditional music scene. Their unique arrangements of original music and traditional Irish tunes and songs have secured their presence at such prestigious UK and international events as Milwaukee Irish Festival, Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Fringe, Copenhagen Irish Festival, Orkney Folk Festival, etc. Dallahan met each other through local sessions in Edinburgh and they are established performers of various musical styles from classical and jazz to Balkan and Celtic. 

As a band, they have recently received an ‘Emerging Excellence Award’ from Help Musicians UK and they were nominated for ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Up and Coming Band of the Year’ at the 2014 Scots Trad Music Awards.

The members of the band have toured extensively with groups as diverse as Kalman Balogh’s Gypsy Cimbalom Band, Larsa, Fianna, Samling, Tcha Limberger, Riverdance, and they regularly appear at festivals and venues both in the UK and internationally.

As individuals, they have received various awards; Ciaran won the title of ‘All Britain Banjo Champion’ in 2006, Jani won first prize at the ‘1st Hungarian Traditional Music Competition’ and Jack was recently a finalist in the ‘BBC Young Traditional Musician Of The Year Award 2014.’

Brigid Kaelin

Multi-instrumentalist Brigid Kaelin travels the world performing her alt-country-cabaret songs. She’s been a musical guest on NPR’s A Prairie Home Companion, was a semi-finalist on Nashville Star, has played with Elvis Costello many times, and tours Europe at least once a year, She also writes the popular blog, The Red Accordion Diaries, where she details her adventures in music, travel, whisky and motherhood. She overshares in both prose and song. Louisville, Kentucky is home.

Brigid Kaelin

Keltricity

Keltricity is a Celtic-world band that features traditional, contemporary and eclectic Celtic-influenced music from Ireland, Cape Breton, Scotland, England, Brittany, New England and French Canada. The five-member group is comprised of accomplished musicians with backgrounds in various musical genres, from traditional Irish bands to Scottish and New England contra dance bands, to classical, rock and jazz. The variety of these experiences now converge to provide some of the most innovative music around.

Instrumentation consists of accordion (Laurel Fuson), mandolin (Joe Burch), fiddle (Anna Blanton), vocals and keyboard (Caroline Yeager) and guitar (Henry Austin). Clear, crisp vocals characteristic of the genre are presented as solos and two-part harmonies. Together these sounds present fresh musical perspectives on a respected tradition.

Keltricity has performed within a broad range of venues including some of the area’s most prominent annual outdoor festivals, heritage day celebrations, holiday shows, state park programs, radio broadcasts, benefit concerts, wedding receptions, traditional English and contra dances in the region and, of course, at regional pubs. They are part of the Kentucky Arts Council’s Performing Artists roster, reflecting excellence in performances. A Keltricity performance is always full of new and exciting musical surprises in arrangements of songs and tunes that have become favorites of avid Celtic traditionalists as well as eclectic music lovers.

Na Skylark

“na Skylark,” which simply means “the Skylark” in Irish, is devoted to the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and Brittany on Ireland’s national instruments: the Irish harp and the Irish uilleann (“elbow”) pipes. na Skylark weaves these instruments and others – including the Appalachian mountain dulcimer, Irish flutes and whistles, the Irish fiddle, and various percussion – into a tapestry of sound and feeling that’s truly unique. Imagine the Celtic Women “off broadway” and know you are in for a treat. Join us for a wee while as Lorinda Jones (harp, dulcimer) and Cathy Wilde (pipes, whistles) and Jannell Canerday (vocals and fiddle) share the music, history, songs and stories of the Celtic lands and send your spirits soaring.

The Heartland Harp Ensemble

2017 Performer

The Heartland Harp Ensemble, under the direction of Lorinda Jones, meets in Elizabethtown, KY with members from across central KY.  The group has traveled to both Ireland and Scotland, learning the history of the harp and recreating the tunes in their own arrangements that include not only the Irish harp, but also complimentary instruments such as the flute, psaltery, Irish whistle and flute, accordion, and percussion.

Oh the sound of Celtic and American folk songs on multiple harps!!

Guilderoy Byrne

Performs songs, tunes, and stories. Music includes Celtic, Irish, Scottish and International selections – Released New CD in 2015:  I Once Loved a Lass”.

Guilderoy Byrne _greg Greg Byrne on vocals & guitars.  Has performed throughout the USA and Canada as both soloist and group member. Has produced 5 CD’s of Irish and Celtic Music with Guilderoy Byrne, Galloglas, and Mad Catherine and the Moondog Pirates. Father’s family immigrated to the USA from Ireland in 1842 by way of Philadelphia.  Mother’s family is Scottish.
Guilderoy Byrne _cathy Cathy Owens on fiddle and vocals. Blends an influence of bluegrass, country, and folk music in her stage presentation. Performed at Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, FanFair, and major International and USA Festivals as a member of the Wildwood Girls.  Studied Sligo Irish fiddling under Brian and Rose Conway. Performs at Museum of Appalachia in Norris TN, a Smithsonian Affiliate.
Guilderoy Byrne _mark Mark Cannon on vocals, whistle, flute, mandolin, fiddle & percussion. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist. There is not a traditional instrument Mark hasn’t played or contemplated playing! Former member of traditional group Ten Penny Bit, and a well-known dance & band leader.  Mark is a Galway-style vocalist and is an expert at Irish drinking songs.
Guilderoy-Byrne_Tiffany Tiffany Taylor on vocals and percussion. Classically trained, Tiffany has performed many genres in addition to Celtic, including folk, blues, and country; she is also a former member of Voces Novae choral ensemble. Also an accomplished actress, Tiffany served as board president for Louisville Repertory Co. and has appeared in numerous plays presented by Louisville Rep, Pandora Productions, and other Louisville-area companies.

Derby Boys

2017 Performer

The Derby Boys are named for the hats that are so popular on St. Patrick’s Day and for the Kentucky Derby which is held on the first Saturday in May in our hometown. The Derby Boys concentrate on pub songs and use a variety of instruments (banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass, hand-drums, flute, whistle, and the male voice!) to capture the spirit of Ireland’s beloved ballads and drinking and rebel songs.

Doctors advise consuming the Derby Boys with a moderate dose of Guinness or Harp!

Louisville Pipe Band

2017 Performer

The Louisville Pipe Band is in good standing and recognized by the Midwest Piping Association as a competitive and performing Bagpipe Band based in Louisville, Kentucky.

LouisvillePipeBand_2016_LogoMembers are drawn from throughout Kentucky and southern Indiana.

The band performs at community and corporate events, weddings and festivals in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. The band successfully competes in several Highland Games each year and its individual members are often found among those placing in the top three in their respective solo competitions.

The Band is a charitable non-profit corporation and is financially sustained by performance fees, private donations and corporate sponsorships to facilitate teaching programs and travel to competitions.

The Band’s accomplishments include:

  • Competing in the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland
  • Participating in the 10,000 Piper Millennium Parade in Edinburgh
  • Presenting a concert at the Bomhard Theater in the Kentucky Center with special guest and world class solo bagpiper, Alasdair Gillies.
  • Playing at the opening and the closing ceremonies for the PGA Ryder Cup held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Robert Tincher

2017 Performer

Robert Tincher first experienced the traditional music of the British Isles during the summer of 1973, as a University of Kentucky student visiting England and Scotland. It’s been his passion ever since. Over the years, he’s worked with several Celtic bands and as a solo performer.  His singing and musicianship are widely respected.
